CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police say a man and his 6-year-old granddaughter have been hospitalized with serious injuries after being attacked by a pit bull in McDowell County.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. W.C. Tupper says that the attack occurred about 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the little girl’s mother’s home in Welch. A neighbor who tried to help received minor injuries.
Tupper says the girl and her grandfather were taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital.
An off-duty McDowell deputy sheriff who lived nearby shot and killed the dog.
State police did not immediately release the victims’ names.
