PHOENIX — After being at the Arizona Humane Society since May, five-month old shar-pei Scarlet has a new home.
Virginia Kempf won a drawing to adopt Scarlet on Wednesday.
“I said ‘Lord, if I get a chance and I put my name in, I will take the best care ever of that animal. Just let us share her life,’” Kempf said.
The dog was found in the engine of a car while some citizens were out on a shopping trip.
“People were out driving to the store, heard a noise [and] had no idea what it could possibly be,” the Arizona Humane Society’s Bretta Nelson said. “They pulled over and sure enough there was a furry little puppy in there. It was the Arizona Humane Society’s car engine rescue.”
Scarlet had to have surgery because of the burns to her fur and skin.
After a successful recovery the Arizona Humane Society put her up for adoption.
In total 25 people entered the drawing.
