EVERETT, Wash. — A large group of dog lovers are expected outside the Snohomish County Courthouse Tuesday morning to show their support for the owners of a dog killed by police.
Officers in Des Moines shot and killed Rosie the newfoundland last year after she got loose. An attorney representing Rosie’s owners filed suit, asking the city to charge the officers involved with animal cruelty.
The case started in Des Moines Municipal Court, then was moved to King County District Court after the Des Moines Municipal Court judge recused herself. It was referred by King County to Pierce County and finally moved to Snohomish County District Court when the docket was too full in Pierce County.
A hearing about the suit is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Snohomish County Courthouse in Everett. Supporters of Rosie are holding a protest outside the courthouse at 9 a.m.

Why was this dog shot? Newfoundland’s are usually docile. How did the dog get loose? So many questions. What were the circumstances? I am very reluctant to accuse one way or the other without all the details. My heart goes out to the dog’s people.
