A Georgia teen nearly decapitated his dog by wrapping an electrical cord around the helpless animal’s neck and leaving it to die in the woods, authorities said.
“It is without a doubt the worst case of animal cruelty I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been sheriff for 29 years,” Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Monterion Dionte Davis, 19, of Forsyth, Ga., was arrested Thursday after authorities – incensed by a graphic photo of the wounded dog – launched an investigation.
“The picture is what got me fired up,” said Bittick.
The mixed-breed dog was nearly dead when the animal rescue group Save-A-Pet found the wounded animal on July 7 and rushed it to a veterinary hospital.
The dog survived after emergency surgery to repair a severed trachea and other injuries apparently suffered when it was tied to a tree.
Two weeks later, authorities arrested Davis on a charge of aggravated animal cruelty. Davis faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

I also want to know which shelter that Hope was taken to. What kind of place was this? From what I understand, Mr. Smith was the only person who tried to help Hope. I feel that charges should also be filed against the shelter and a full investigation ran. Unfortunately, this piece of filth, Davis, will only get a small tap on his hand because people do not care and/or believe in the rights of animals.

When is the court date/ Who is the sitting judge? Until laws change and just sentences get handed down, this will happen again & again. Dear District Attorney Penn:
While tethered to a tree, Hope struggled to survive. A wire wrapped around her neck mercilessly and relentlessly sliced through fur, tore through skin, cut through firm, cervical musculature and finally severed her trachea. While she battled countless days of agonizing pain – she endured starvation, blood loss, dehydration and the unrelenting torment to breathe from a sliced throat. Concurrently, Mr. Davis comfortably slept, nourished himself, celebrated Independence Day and went on about performing and enjoying his daily activities …
On July 26, 2011, Hope fatally succumbed to the tortuous injuries caused by Mr. Monterion Dionte Davis, thus I respectfully request your office petition the court to remand Mr. Davis into the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections until completion of his trial. His admission to Munroe County Sheriff John Bittick of the aforementioned crime and intentional infliction of torture with intent to kill, urges the immediate protection of your/our lawful and decent citizenry.
As you’re aware, several, supportive and revered studies affirm animal cruelty as a known predictor of violence against humans. (1) As purported in the cited study, sadistic behavior and its propensity for torture against animals denotes a legitimate societal risk – and we’re undoubtedly at risk while Mr. Davis lives freely among us.
Furthermore, I would be remiss to discount that while Hope was Mr. Davis’ fatal victim, his abhorrent actions victimized many more. We, John Q. Public, were unwittingly victimized, too, after having witnessed the vile torture inflicted and evidenced by the image(s) depicting Hope’s head nearly decapitated. I’ve yet to witness and won’t soon forget such grotesquely ghoulish imagery of nightmarish quality.
In closing, I urge your office to protect us against the lawlessness and implicit liability of Mr. Davis. Having read GA Animal Cruelty Statute 16-12-4, it states, “a minimum of 1 year with up to 10 years incarceration”. I vehemently support nothing less than the maximum of 10 years be sought against him. However, until then, his ability to live freely among us must be reconsidered by your office.
